Elizabeth Johnson
Compassionate Planning & Supportive Soul Friend
Elizabeth Johnson, MA is an end-of-life doula, educator, and Co-Founder and Executive Director of The Peaceful Presence Project, an Oregon-based nonprofit dedicated to transforming how communities talk about, plan for, and experience the last stage of life. Serving individuals and families across Oregon—with a particular focus on rural and underserved communities—her work centers on community and clinician education, advance care planning, and compassionate support for those navigating serious illness, grief, and end-of-life transitions.
With a Master’s degree in Community and Urban Planning, Elizabeth work with The Peaceful Presence Project brings a public health and community development perspective to end-of-life care. Her path into this work was shaped by years of global education, facilitation, and service, including time spent volunteering at Kalighat, a community hospice for the sick, destitute, and dying in Kolkata, India. She is a graduate and faculty member of the Anamcara Project, a certified Advance Care Planning educator through the Institute on Healthcare Directives, and is currently enrolled in a two-year Buddhist Chaplaincy training program through Upaya Zen Center.
Elizabeth serves on the leadership council of Public Health Palliative Care International. She is passionate about building death- and grief-literate communities and strengthening compassionate systems of care. Drawing on both professional experience and personal encounters with profound loss, she is committed to helping people feel more informed, supported, and connected throughout life’s most vulnerable transitions.
