Arlene Stepputat
Doula • Chaplain • Spiritual Counselor
Arlene has walked the path of befriending death and dying since childhood. She understands the complexity of the journey with her lived experience as well as her years of in-depth training and work history. She managed a free Doula Grief Support program for the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization since 2021 with volunteer doulas. That program has recently been adopted by INELDA. Arlene has a deep commitment to honoring the inherent power of Love within each of us. Service is her foundational approach to living.
Arlene holds a master’s degree from Columbia University in Family and Community Education and a Master’s in Theology from Peace Theological Seminary. In addition, she has a certificate in Applied Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. Arlene trained as an Anamcara (Celtic for “Soul Friend”) for four years through the Sacred Art of Living Center and completed an additional two years of study as an End-of-Life Practitioner and graduate of the Metta Institute founded by Frank Ostaseski. She was trained by and is a member of INELDA (the International End of Life Doula Association.) She is also a volunteer chaplain for the Santa Barbara Fire Department. Previously she was the Program Manager for the Alzheimer’s Association. She then worked at VNA Health as the Manager of their Hospice Volunteer program for nearly 9 years.
