Do all the good that you can

This morning, I learned of the death of Michael Stillwater.

Michael was a musician, artist, and healer who was so very instrumental in my development as a hospice physician years ago. I came to know of him when he began to bring his guitar to the bedside of very ill and dying people on the West Coast. He would sit at the bedside, and after talking with them, he would write and play a song in the moment that was just for them. His path blossomed and he became a conduit for leaders in the medical, spiritual and healing communities to spread their message and heal and teach others.

I invited him on a whim to come to Canton, Ohio and lead a one day retreat for our hospice...and he did. It is said of Mother Theresa, you could feel being in the presence of her Anam ("soul"). I would say the same about Michael.

His album “Care for the Journey" has been and still is a key piece in my teaching, especially for medical students. I hope you will listen to the following track that gathers some needed insights into how we can choose to be in this chaotic world.

Michael, thank you. I carry a small part of your Anam with me, and I am so grateful for it...🙏
